Planned, Permanent Abstinence
What a Concept!
If you have not been helped by addiction treatment or recovery
group meetings and would like to end your addiction once and
for all, Rational Recovery provides an ideal approach for
you, Addictive Voice Recognition Technique (AVRT). AVRT was
developed from the successful experiences of others who had
tried everything -- except quitting. If you are "in recovery"
and would like to kick the recovery
habit, this Web RR Center can help you achieve your goals.
Rational Recovery recommends that
all substance
users or abusers learn RR concepts before
doing anything else or getting help. The
reasons are simple:
- There is nothing more cost-effective, dignified, simple,
risk-free, and beneficial than planned, permanent abstinence.
- Even though you have an alcohol or drug problem, there
is nothing wrong with you that prevents you from
abstaining.
- Planned abstinence is a skill. Anyone can learn it.
You may not yet know how to abstain, but you can surely
learn.
- Most people (over 70%)
who quit substance addictions do it on their own. Even
AA admits that 60% of successful recoveries take place
independently -- outside
AA -- without groups, shrinks, or rehabs!*
- Whatever problems you may have, they are most likely
the result and not the cause
of your addiction. When you abstain, they will probably
fade or disappear.
- The cost of getting help in time and money is great,
to you, to others, and to society.
- Getting help usually means extensive participation in
recovery group activities instead
of directly learning the skill of planned abstinence.
- There is little if any research showing that getting
help helps.
- Recovery groups often aggravate addictions and cause
new problems.
- Given the choice, most people prefer independent problem-solving.
- Quitting a substance addiction is much easier than it
appears to be, or is made out to be.
- According AA's circular logic, if you quit on your own,
you didn't have "the problem"
in the first place. What that really means is that no
one really has "the problem" until going
to AA. Anyone can quit right now,
for good, and immediately become a normal, healthy person.
